About Mary
Mary has over 25 years of nursing experience in both hospitals and in the community. She has a BSc (Hons) degree in Health and Community practice and an MSc Cert in Specialist practice. Along with her Nursing qualifications she also has Diplomas in Diabetes and Chronic Obstructive Airways disease that enable her to offer a holistic assessment and approach to her work. Mary has completed her ear care training and passed her competencies with the Rotherham Ear Care Centre Rotherham Ear Care and Audiology Services (earcarecentre.com)
She spent many years as a District Nursing Sister and therefore extremely well experienced in offering health care to people in their own homes.
Mary still works part time as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in a GP practice and has an excellent working knowledge of local health and social care services.
Why did Mary develop this business?
Mary decided to develop her Ear Care business after trying to arrange ear wax removal for her parents prior to their hearing tests. Her mother is very reluctant to leave the house and it causes her great anxiety. Many GP surgeries are not able to offer routine ear wax removal and the Community Nursing Service have to adhere to a strict criteria for the removal of ear wax in peoples homes. Ear syringing was a procedure Mary was familiar with and so she syringed her parent’s ears at home. The difference in their hearing after the procedure was noticeable and it also meant they could proceed and book their hearing tests.
Many older people struggle to access services. Mary is very passionate about the health of older people and therefore decided to develop a home visiting service to enable people to have their ear wax removed in their own homes. Within these appointments Mary not only removes the wax by microsuction or syringing depending on patient need but can also advise on general ear care management. With her vast amount of experience she offers a holistic approach.
